Makers markets are heavy lifts! I load the car with prints, suitcases of hats, heavy folding tables, a tent, and a cooler full of snacks, and hope it doesn’t rain or snow! In New York, it’s all of the above but via rideshares.
Art markets are hard work that I probably shouldn’t put myself through, but it’s so much fun! Given that my niche is food-centered merch and art prints that feature seasonal produce, I find it easy to connect with fellow food and art lovers at fun events like the Milwaukee Maker’s Market, Strawberry Fest, Renegade Craft Fair, FAD Market, and the Riverwest Blueberry Fest. It’s a nice opportunity for in-person conversation about making art and illustrations, and testing out new concepts.

Since I kicked off this aspect of my career in 2023, I’ve made friends with local artists and so many people in the community who I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with, and getting to know on deeper levels. As someone who identifies both as a newcomer and a Milwaukee native, participating in art fairs and maker’s markets have helped me feel like this is home again. Thank you to all of the event organizers and market coordinators who have welcomed me in!
